Careers Advice

Careers Advice

Hello, my name is Mr Nixon and I am proud to hold the title of Merchants’ Academy Careers Adviser.

My role is all about helping our students to explore the different range of careers that are open to them, to aim high whilst being realistic and above all to see the huge benefits that having a rewarding job can offer.

Many people influence our students’ career decisions; however the biggest one is you, the parent (or guardian). I am therefore asking you to join me in supporting your young person on their path to making the right decision about a possible career.

All students at the Academy, regardless of age, are able to come and have a talk with me about a wide range of topics (examples of which are listed below). I would warmly invite you to join them, become involved in our discussion and be an informed influencer!  Thank you.

  • What would be a suitable job for me?
  • How do I produce a CV?
  • Can I afford to go to university?
  • Which 6th form course should I take?
  • Will being dyslexic be a problem in the workplace?
  • How important is it to be good at maths and English for my future?
  • I am moving out of the area, which college could I go to?
  • Which options should I take in year 8?
  • Where can I find out about volunteering?
