Assessment Reports

Assessment Reports

All teachers report on student attainment and attitude to learning in their subjects five times per year.

The first assessment report will simply provide information regarding the students’ attitude to learning within lessons. This will be completed by all teachers by September 30th.

In addition to the attitude to learning information, the next four reports will provide you with information about how students are progressing in each subject. This will be in the form of a current attainment level and a predicted level. The current attainment level is the level students are working at in the classroom at that time, with the predicted level being the teacher’s prediction for the level / grade that the student will achieve by the end of the year (KS3), or the end of the course (KS4).

These reports will be completed on the following dates:

  • Assessment 1: 30th September
  • Assessment 2: 18th November
  • Assessment 3: 3rd February
  • Assessment 4: 20th April
  • Assessment 5: 6th July

The reports will be sent to you, or given to you at a Parent Consultation Day. They can also be accessed through the Academy website using your own personal login and password. If you forget your login or password please contact reception on 0117 3015000.

Attainment Grades

Teachers report student attainment as a national curriculum level, or a GCSE / BTEC / entry level grade when studying examination courses in years 9 – 13.

National curriculum levels range from 1 to 8 in the majority of subjects, with level 4 expected attainment by the end of year 6, and level 5 by the end of year 9. Each national curriculum level is divided into 3 sub levels, e.g. 4a, 4b, 4c with, for example, 4a being the highest sub level.

GCSE grades range from A*- G. A* is roughly equivalent to a national curriculum level 10, a C grade national curriculum level 7, and a G grade level 3.

BTEC grades are at either Foundation Level or Level 2, with a level 2 grade being equivalent to at least a grade C at GCSE. The approximate equivalents are as follows:

Foundation Level/Level 1

  • Pass – equivalent to 2 GCSE passes at D-G grade

Certificate

  • Level 2 Pass – equivalent to 1 GCSE pass at grade C
  • Level 2 Merit – equivalent to 1 GCSE pass at grade B
  • Level 2 Distinction – equivalent to 1 GCSE pass at grade A
  • Level 2 Distinction star – equivalent to 1 GCSE pass at grade A*

Extended Certificate

  • Level 2 Pass – equivalent to 2 GCSE passes at grade C
  • Level 2 Merit – equivalent to 2 GCSE passes at grade B
  • Level 2 Distinction – equivalent to 2 GCSE passes at grade A
  • Level 2 Distinction star – equivalent to 2 GCSE passes at grade A*

Good progress is recognised as making 3 whole levels of progress from KS2 to KS4, with outstanding progress as making 4 whole levels. For example a student progressing from level 4c at the end of year 6 to a grade C at GCSE (level 7) would have made good progress. At KS3 good progress translate to 2 fine levels per year e.g. progressing from level 5c to level 5a.
