The Merchants’ Academy is a purpose built school organised in a very similar way to a large city office. Our practices will mirror those found in industry and commerce and our relationship with industry means that students will often find themselves working alongside employers, so high standards of dress and presentation are expected at all time. Sample colours of the correct grey for jumper and trousers are available.

One pair of small plain sleepers or studs may be worn if ears are pierced. No other piercing is allowed. All jewellery must be removed for PE. Make up, if worn, must not be noticeable – if we can see it then it is too much. No eye shadow, eye liner etc is allowed. No nail varnish is to be worn.

Hairstyles should be appropriate for school and be of one natural colour. No extremes of fashion can be worn and no cut should be below grade 3.

Sixth Form students should dress for the office. Smart office wear should be worn to conform to the highest standards found in the modern workplace. The rule will be simple. Expect to be interviewed for a job at any time and dress appropriately. Jacket, collar and tie, a suit or skirt is acceptable.
