Rules

Rules

Like any other community, Merchants’ Academy has a set of rules that govern our daily life. These are set so that our students will be happy, safe and come to respect those around them as they work hard at their studies. We expect that:

  • All students will wear the correct uniform to the Academy. Failure to do so will result in being sent home to change.
  • On entry to the Academy, all students should place outdoor coats in their locker (students should provide their own padlock).
  • Hair colour should be natural and extreme styles are actively discouraged.
  • Students are discouraged from bringing mobile phones into the Academy. If they are seen, they will be confiscated and left with Reception where parents/guardians will need to collect them.
  • Students are not allowed to leave the site either at break or lunch time.
  • Students will arrive on time with the appropriate equipment for the day ahead.
  • Chewing gum is banned from the Academy.

Within the classroom, we have three simple rules:

  • Follow staff instructions first time.
  • Listen in silence
  • Keep hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself.

We aim to praise and reward students as much as we can. This may be in the following formats:

  • A phone call home
  • A postcard of praise
  • A letter home
  • A Merit certificate for continued good achievement/progress/behaviour/attendance
  • Vouchers/prizes
