International Partnership

On the 1st December we had some visitors from Nairobi (Kenya) come to our school. The visitors had a lovely morning, so thank you to everyone for making it such a positive experience for them.

We are in the very first stages of putting a partnership together and think our students can benefit hugely from this experience. I can confirm that we will be partnered with The Kenya High School. This is a very reputable school in the centre of Nairobi and is the oldest national girls’ high school. It is a boarding school and has 920 students, and 55 teaching staff. www.kenyahigh.ac.ke

If anyone would like more information, or has any ideas please see Miss Barnes, Miss Angell, Mr Baker or Miss Elliot.

Writing Competition

The winners of our inter-house horror story competitions have finally been announced! Students were required to write the spookiest tale they could, whilst focussing on excellent sentence structure, choice of vocabulary and story structure.

The winners are:

Lawfords – Connor Bodnarazek

Castle – Corrie Hazell

Temple – Alex Drake

Frome – Greg Hastings

Here is a short extract from the work of the overall winning story Pulled towards Darkness by Corrie Hazell:

Standing before the house, I glanced cautiously up at the window. There had been rumours about this place. A man had lived there and died one day in wretched poverty. The house appeared cold and empty, abandoned in the countryside, alone beside an empty field. Being alone somewhere like this was like watching the final scene of a film. Tentatively, holding my bag close to my chest, I stepped over a gravestone to edge closer to the eerie house. The door handle stared at me, beckoning me to turn it.
