Merchants’ Academy is a newly built state-of-the-art school that has recently won the 2009 RIBA (The Royal Institute of British Architects) regional award for the building’s architectural excellence.

The Academy site is uniquely laid out to resemble a ‘campus’, with seven separate buildings surrounding a central courtyard, encouraging students to look outwards from their immediate community. Each building has a separate colour scheme to help students distinguish different departments and navigate around the Academy with ease.

We are a 21st century Academy and use the latest technology and ICT equipment to enhance teaching and learning across the school.

All students have access to state-of-the-art computer suites and are encouraged to visit our Learning Resource Centre to borrow books and access careers advice.

The Academy also has an excellent restaurant serving hot and healthy meals to students every day in the main Dining Hall.
