Pastoral support

Pastoral support

The well-being of our students at Merchants’ Academy is central to all that we aim to achieve. We aim to get to know all of our students as individuals so that they can prosper and develop. Tutors are at the centre of our pastoral care. They are key to ensuring the well-being and progress of our students, liaising with Heads of Year, Intervention Managers, parents, Attendance Managers and other staff where necessary.

All tutors work closely with their Head of Year who is assisted by an Intervention Manager. Their aim is to ensure that all students:

  • Attend regularly
  • Make good academic progress
  • Develop into well-rounded young people
  • Are happy and safe

To ensure this happens, each year team works under the direction of the Academy Director for Student Progress and Challenge. Regular Parents’ Meetings are held, and appropriate interventions are put in place by the team in consultation with parents.
